Born in Hackensack, Matthew grew up in Wood Ridge and Tinton Falls, where he graduated from Monmouth Regional High School in 2000, his obituary says.
He went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, History, and Political Science from Monmouth University in 2008 before working as a technical support manager at Rees Scientific, where he was known for both his skill and friendly demeanor amongst his colleagues. He lived in Westampton Township at the time of his death.
“He had a great sense of humor and made people laugh with his jokes, videos, and stories during lunch breaks,” reads his obituary.
Above all, Matthew embraced his role as a dedicated father to his son, Joshua, and was endlessly passionate about spending time with his family.
“He loved being a dad and an uncle more than anything else,” reads his memorial. “He was a big kid at heart, and he enjoyed spending time with his four nieces. He always made them laugh and feel special.”
In addition to his son, Matthew is survived by his loving wife, Danielle, his two dogs Sonic and Bucky, as well as many extended family members and close friends.
Meanwhile, nearly $28,000 had been raised on a GoFundMe launched by Rees Scientific following Matthew’s tragic and unexpected passing:
“Matt was a kind and joyful person who always showed love to others. His positive energy was contagious and could lift anyone’s mood. Our hearts break for his wife Danielle and their young son Josh. This tragic loss has caused them unimaginable grief and sorrow.”
The campaign remembered Matthew as a vital part of the team, a “mentor to many, and a joy to work with.”
“We have a duty as a community to stand by his family and offer them emotional support and comfort in this time of sorrow,” reads the campaign. “We’re committed to standing by them throughout this hard time…We understand that the road ahead will be tough, and we want to ensure that his family has the resources they need to thrive despite their loss.”
Tributes immediately hit social media as well:
Matthew’s memorial was held at the Church of St. Anselm on Wayside Road in Tinton Falls on Friday, May 12.
“We urge you to make a donation in memory of our beloved friend,” reads the campaign. “Your kindness will help his family cope with their emotional and financial needs. The donations will also go [toward] his son’s educational funds.”
